Dubai Gold Rate in Pakistani, Nepali, Sri Lankan, Bangladeshi, Philippine and Egyptian Currencies
Pakistanis, Nepalis, Sri Lankans, Bangladeshis, Filipinos and Egyptians together make up a large share of the UAE's workforce, and all of them ask the same question before a trip home: what is the Dubai gold rate in my currency, and is it really cheaper than the price in Karachi, Kathmandu, Colombo, Dhaka, Manila or Cairo? The converters on this page take the live dirham rate per gram and per tola and turn it into each currency at the current exchange rate. Around them we explain why home prices are usually higher, how tola and gram cultures differ, how remittance timing affects the decision, and what to check about customs before you fly.
Dubai gold rate in Pakistani rupees: per gram and per tola
Pakistan is a tola country. Newspapers, jewellers in Karachi's Sarafa Bazaar and Lahore's Anarkali, and the Sarafa associations that announce daily rates all quote 24K and 22K per tola, with the 10 gram price alongside. One tola is 11.6638 grams, so to compare a Dubai gram rate with a Pakistani tola rate, multiply by 11.6638 and then by the AED to PKR exchange rate. The converter does both:

| 22K (916) | … | … | … |

Why the Pakistani price is usually higher: gold entering Pakistan attracts duty and sales tax, formal imports are limited, and the rupee has lost a large part of its value against the dollar over the past decade. Because Dubai's price is pegged to the dollar, every fall in the rupee shows up immediately as a higher rate in Karachi while the dirham figure has not moved. Pakistani families in Dubai and Sharjah therefore tend to buy 22K sets and 24K coins here, within whatever allowance applies, rather than converting savings to rupees first. The 22K rate page gives the karat most Pakistani buyers need.
Gold price in Nepal per tola versus the Dubai rate
Nepal also prices gold per tola, with the Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers' Associations announcing a daily rate for fine gold and for the 22K "tejabi" grade widely used in Nepali jewellery. Nepali workers in the UAE, one of the largest communities in Dubai's construction and hospitality sectors, often compare the Kathmandu tola rate with what a Deira shop quotes for the same weight.

The gap comes from the same sources as in Pakistan: customs duty on gold entering Nepal, a currency that is itself pegged to the Indian rupee and so inherits the rupee's weakness against the dollar, and limited formal supply. Nepal's customs rules set a quantity of gold jewellery that returning workers may bring without duty and apply duty above it, with separate treatment for bars; the thresholds have changed more than once, so check the Department of Customs guidance before travelling. Many Nepali buyers favour 24K coins and small bars from Dubai because the purity is certified and the premium over the gram rate is low; see the gold bars page for sizes.
Gold price in Sri Lanka and the Dubai rate in LKR
Sri Lanka quotes gold mostly per sovereign (8 grams, often called a pawn) and per gram, with 22K and 24K the common grades and Colombo's Sea Street the traditional jewellery quarter. Sri Lankan rupee gold prices rose sharply during the currency crisis of the early 2020s, which made Dubai purchases by the island's large Gulf workforce more attractive, and even after partial recovery the premium over the Dubai rate remains meaningful.

To compare, multiply the Dubai 22K gram rate by 8 for a sovereign, then by the AED to LKR rate. Sri Lankan customs allow returning residents a personal allowance of jewellery and apply duty and declaration requirements above it, with different rules for gold bars and for people who have been abroad for shorter periods; verify the current position with Sri Lanka Customs before you fly. The is gold cheaper in Dubai guide explains the general mechanics of the saving and where it can be lost at the airport.
Gold price in Bangladesh: bhori, taka and the Dubai comparison
Bangladesh uses its own traditional unit, the bhori, which is the same as a tola, 11.6638 grams, and the Bangladesh Jewellers Association announces rates per bhori for 22K, 21K and 18K. Bangladeshi residents of the UAE, who are among the biggest remitters to their country, often ask for Dubai prices per tola precisely because it maps directly to the bhori price in Dhaka.
Dubai gold rate in BDT

The Dhaka price is usually well above the Dubai price in taka terms because of import duty and VAT on gold, limited official import channels and the taka's gradual depreciation. Bangladesh customs set a baggage allowance for gold jewellery and a separate, declared allowance for gold bars on payment of duty; the figures have been revised several times in recent years, so check the National Board of Revenue's current baggage rules. In Dubai, 21K and 22K sets in Bengali styles are available in Deira and in the Bur Dubai shops around Meena Bazaar, and the Gold Souk page explains how to compare making charges there.
Gold price in the Philippines and the Dubai rate in pesos
Filipinos are one of the largest expatriate communities in the UAE, and gold shopping in Dubai is a common part of a trip home or a balikbayan box. The Philippines quotes gold per gram in pesos, with 18K and 21K popular for everyday jewellery and 24K for investment; Manila's jewellery districts in Binondo and Meycauayan in Bulacan are the traditional centres.

Philippine prices sit above Dubai's in peso terms because of import duties and VAT and because the peso floats against the dollar, but the gap is often smaller than for South Asian currencies. Filipino buyers in Dubai favour 18K designer pieces and small 24K coins, which are zero-rated for VAT at 99% purity or above. The Bureau of Customs applies a duty-free threshold for returning residents' personal effects and requires declaration of gold above certain values, and overseas Filipino workers have specific privileges; check the current Bureau of Customs rules before travelling. The gold coins page covers the sizes most often bought as gifts.
Egypt: Dubai gold rate in Egyptian pounds and the 21K culture
Egyptians in the UAE buy 21K, stamped 875, and compare the Dubai 21K rate with the daily price announced in Cairo's Sagha district. The Egyptian pound has fallen steeply against the dollar in successive devaluations, which pushed the Cairo gram price to levels that made Dubai gold, bought in dollar-pegged dirhams, both cheaper and a hedge against further weakness.
Dubai gold rate in EGP

Egypt's customs treatment of gold brought in by travellers has changed several times, including temporary exemptions announced and later withdrawn, so the safe advice is to check the Egyptian Customs Authority's current rules and declare anything beyond personal-use jewellery. Egyptian families also take the exchange rate into account more than most: when the official and parallel pound rates diverge, the "real" Dubai price in pounds depends on which rate you would otherwise use to buy. The 21K rate page is the right reference for the karat Egyptians actually buy.
Tola versus gram: the units behind the rates
Dubai itself prices per gram, but its shops are fluent in the units their customers use. The table summarises what each country quotes and how it maps to the Dubai rate:
| Country | Usual unit | Grams | Common karat |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pakistan | Tola, 10 g | 11.6638 | 22K, 24K |
| Nepal | Tola | 11.6638 | 24K, 22K |
| Sri Lanka | Sovereign (pawn), gram | 8 | 22K, 24K |
| Bangladesh | Bhori | 11.6638 | 22K, 21K |
| Philippines | Gram | 1 | 18K, 21K, 24K |
| Egypt | Gram | 1 | 21K, 18K |
Two things to remember. First, always compare like with like: a 22K tola price in Lahore against the Dubai 22K rate multiplied by 11.6638, never against 24K. Second, home-country rates are often announced once a day by a jewellers' body, while the Dubai rate updates through the day with the international spot price, so compare at the same hour.
Frequently asked questions
What is the Dubai gold rate in Pakistani rupees per tola today?
The PKR converter above multiplies the live Dubai rate per gram by 11.6638 for a tola and then by the AED to PKR exchange rate, for 24K and 22K. The figure updates through the day and is indicative; the rate you actually get depends on the exchange rate your bank or exchange house applies.
Is gold cheaper in Dubai than in Pakistan, Nepal or Sri Lanka?
Usually, yes, in home-currency terms. Dubai has no import duty, 5% VAT on jewellery only and competitive making charges, while those countries add duty and taxes and have weaker currencies. The saving is real within each country's customs allowance and shrinks once duty applies to the excess.
What is a bhori and how does it relate to a tola?
A bhori is the traditional Bangladeshi gold unit and equals one tola, 11.6638 grams. Bangladesh Jewellers Association rates are announced per bhori, so multiply the Dubai gram rate by 11.6638 and by the AED to BDT exchange rate to compare directly.
How much gold can I carry from Dubai to my home country?
It depends on the country and changes often. Each of Pakistan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, the Philippines and Egypt sets its own allowance for jewellery, with separate rules for bars and coins and declaration thresholds. Check your national customs website shortly before travel and keep all Dubai invoices with you.
Why does the Dubai gold rate in my currency change when the dirham rate has not?
Because your currency moved against the dollar. The dirham is pegged at 3.6725 to the dollar, so the Dubai rate in dirhams follows only the world gold price. When the Pakistani rupee, taka, peso or Egyptian pound weakens, the same dirham price converts to more units of your currency.
