21K Gold Rate Today in UAE – 21 Carat Gold Price per Gram in Dubai (875 Gold)

The 21K gold rate today in the UAE appears live above per gram, per 10 grams and per ounce in dirhams and dollars, calculated as 87.5% of the pure gold price and identical in Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Abu Dhabi and the northern emirates. 21 carat is the karat of the Arab world: it is what Emirati, Saudi, Egyptian, Jordanian, Syrian, Lebanese and Palestinian families mean when they say "gold", and it is the metal of the bridal shabka. If you are an Arab buyer, or anyone comparing a 21K piece with a 22K one in the souk, this page explains the 875 standard, how 21K differs from 22K in colour and hardness, where the best 21K selection is in the UAE and what to expect when you sell.

What 21 carat (875) gold is and why the Gulf chose it

21K gold contains 21 parts gold in 24, which is 87.5% pure, hence the "875" stamp inside Gulf and Egyptian jewellery. The other 12.5% is mostly copper with some silver, and that extra copper compared with 22K does two useful things: it makes the metal harder, so intricate pieces keep their shape, and it deepens the colour to the warm, saturated yellow that Arab taste associates with real gold. Hold a 21K bangle next to a 22K one and the 21K will look richer, even though it contains slightly less gold.

The standard spread across the region through Egypt, the Levant and the Gulf states, where gold has long been both adornment and the family's portable savings. 21K hit the balance that tradition demanded: pure enough to hold value and to be resold by weight anywhere in the Arab world, hard enough for the heavy, worked designs of a wedding set. Today it is the default karat in Gulf-owned jewellers from Deira to Riyadh and Cairo, while 22K remains the standard in Indian-owned shops a few doors away.

Our karats explained guide compares all the purities; here we focus on 21K as it is lived in the UAE.

How the 21K gold price today is calculated

The 21K rate is derived, not traded. Take the live 24K gram rate from the gold rate today board (the international spot price per ounce divided by 31.1035 and multiplied by the 3.6725 dirham peg) and multiply by 0.875. That figure is published through the Dubai Gold & Jewellery Group retail rate during the day and appears on the 21K line of every shop board in the country. The widget above does the same calculation continuously and shows the result per gram, 10 grams and ounce.

Compared with the other karats, 21K sits a little under 22K and well above 18K: roughly 95.5% of the 22K rate and about 117% of the 18K rate. Because the dirham is pegged, the rate moves only with the dollar gold price, which trades around the clock from Monday morning in Asia to Friday evening in New York; on Fridays and Saturdays the souk works from the last published figure. The how the Dubai rate is set page covers the publishing schedule in detail.

Gulf jewellers often quote 21K per gram and then give you a total for the piece. Divide the total by the weight and compare with the live rate above: the difference per gram is the making charge, and that is what you negotiate.

21K vs 22K: colour, hardness and price

This is the most common question from people who shop in both Arab and Indian jewellers, so here is a direct comparison.

Neither is "better". If your family and the jewellers you trust work in 21K, buying 22K means paying more per gram for a colour you may like less, and selling it later in a shop that quotes 21K means being redirected to a 22K buyer. Stay with the karat your community trades in, and the calculator will show you the metal value of any weight in either.

Emirati, Saudi, Egyptian and Levantine 21K designs

The 21K shops of the UAE are a map of the Arab world. Emirati and Saudi pieces are heavy and bold: wide bangles, long chains with large pendants, multi-strand necklaces for weddings and the murtasha, a bib-style necklace of hanging gold elements that remains a bridal classic. Egyptian goldsmiths are known for fine chain work, Pharaonic motifs, cartouche pendants and the thin stackable bangles sold by the set; Egyptian-owned shops in Deira and Sharjah are the place to find them. Levantine work from Syria, Lebanon, Jordan and Palestine tends to be lighter and more detailed: filigree, coin-style pendants, name necklaces in Arabic calligraphy and delicate sets for younger brides. Turkish-made 21K has also become common, bringing machine-finished bangles and chunky link bracelets at competitive labour charges.

Because every one of these traditions sells by weight at the same 21K rate, the design you choose is mostly a question of taste and making charge. Gulf heavy work usually carries a per-gram labour charge; fine Egyptian and Levantine pieces may be charged by the piece. Our pages on necklace sets and bangles show typical weights.

The bridal shabka: budgeting a 21K wedding set

In Egypt, the Levant and much of the Gulf the groom's family presents the bride with a shabka, a gold gift that marks the engagement and traditionally forms part of her own savings. In the UAE the shabka is almost always 21K, bought as a set of necklace, earrings, bangles or bracelet and ring, and its size is agreed between the families, sometimes in grams and sometimes as a budget in dirhams. Because the metal is sold by weight at a published rate, a shabka is one of the few wedding expenses that can be planned transparently: fix the grams, check the live 21K rate, add an expected making charge and 5% VAT, and you have the figure.

Practical advice from the souk: agree the total weight before you discuss designs, so the budget is not quietly eaten by heavier pieces; ask for the making charge per gram in writing; and have every piece weighed in front of you. Many Arab families buy the shabka in Sharjah or Ajman, where labour charges on 21K are traditionally keen, or in the Deira souk during the Dubai Shopping Festival when promotions on Gulf designs are common. The making charges guide explains what a fair labour charge looks like for heavy and fine work.

Where to buy 21K gold: Sharjah, Ajman, Deira and Abu Dhabi

For 21K specifically, three markets stand out. The Sharjah Central Souk, the blue-tiled landmark on the Khalid Lagoon, and the Rolla and Al Shuwaihean gold shops nearby serve a largely Arab clientele and carry deep stocks of Gulf and Egyptian designs; parking is easier than in Deira and the atmosphere is calmer. The Ajman gold souk near Al Bustan is smaller still, popular with families from the northern emirates and known for sharp labour charges on plain 21K bangles. The Dubai Gold Souk in Deira has the largest 21K selection in the country within its Arab-owned shops, especially along the lanes nearer Al Ras, and offers the most competition if you are willing to walk and bargain.

Abu Dhabi residents have Madinat Zayed Gold Centre, where many of the same Gulf chains keep branches with similar 21K ranges, and Al Ain has its own smaller gold row. All of them use the same 21K rate; the differences are choice, labour and negotiating culture. Haggling over the making charge is expected in Arab-owned souk shops, far less so in mall branches with fixed price tags.

Selling 21K gold and checking the 875 stamp

21K is the easiest jewellery karat to sell in the UAE because every Arab-owned shop trades it daily. The buyer weighs the piece, checks the 875 stamp and may test it, then pays the day's 21K selling rate, which sits a little below the buying rate above, minus a small deduction for stones, soldered clasps or missing paperwork. Making charges are not refunded. If the shop that quoted you insists on treating a stamped 875 piece as a lower karat, walk a few doors down; the selling gold in Dubai guide lists where second quotes are easy to get, and a gold loan is the alternative if you need cash but want to keep the set.

Before buying, check the stamp yourself: 875 is usually inside a bangle, on a chain clasp or on the back of a pendant, often next to the maker's mark. Ask for the karat and net gold weight on the invoice, keep it with the piece, and read our purity check guide if you are buying from anyone other than an established shop. Prices on this page are indicative and update from the live market; nothing here is financial advice.

Frequently asked questions

What is the 21K gold rate today in the UAE?

The live widget at the top of this page shows the 21 carat rate per gram, 10 grams and ounce in AED and USD. It is 87.5% of the 24K rate and is the same in Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Abu Dhabi and the other emirates. Shops add a making charge and 5% VAT for jewellery.

What does 875 mean on gold?

875 is the fineness stamp for 21 carat gold: 875 parts per thousand, or 87.5%, pure gold, with the rest mostly copper. It is the standard purity for Emirati, Saudi, Egyptian, Levantine and Turkish jewellery and the karat most Arab-owned shops in the UAE trade in.

Is 21K or 22K gold better?

They suit different traditions. 21K is harder and a deeper yellow, and it is what Arab jewellers and buyers use; 22K has slightly more gold, is softer and paler, and is the Indian standard. Buy the karat your family and local jewellers trade in, because that is where you will resell it most easily.

Why is 21K gold so common in Dubai and the Gulf?

Because it is the regional standard for Arab jewellery, balancing high purity with the hardness needed for heavy, detailed wedding sets. Gulf, Egyptian and Levantine goldsmiths have worked in 21K for generations, and it can be resold by weight anywhere in the Arab world, which matters for families who treat gold as savings.

How do I budget for a 21K shabka?

Agree the total weight in grams with the family, multiply by the live 21K rate above for the metal value, then add the expected making charge per gram and 5% VAT. Use the calculator on this page for the arithmetic, get the labour charge in writing, and have each piece weighed in front of you.

Where is the cheapest place to buy 21K gold in the UAE?

The metal costs the same everywhere; what differs is the making charge. Sharjah's Central Souk and Rolla area and the Ajman gold souk are traditionally keen on labour for plain 21K pieces, while the Deira Gold Souk offers the widest choice and the most room to negotiate. Mall branches have fixed prices and seasonal promotions.
