Gold Rate in Abu Dhabi Today – 24K, 22K and 21K per Gram
The gold rate in Abu Dhabi today is the same per-gram rate that Dubai's jewellers use, because the UAE has one retail gold price for all seven emirates. The board at the top of this page converts the live international spot price into dirhams for 24K, 22K, 21K and 18K, so the figure you see here is the metal value a shop in Madinat Zayed or on Hamdan Street will start from. Below, you will find which karat Abu Dhabi residents actually buy, where the main gold shops in the capital are, what a ring or bangle costs once making charges and VAT are added, and how to sell at a fair price.
Is the gold rate in Abu Dhabi different from Dubai?
No. A gram of 22K gold costs the same in Abu Dhabi as it does in Deira on the same afternoon. The metal is priced in US dollars per troy ounce on the world market, the dirham is fixed to the dollar at 3.6725, and the Dubai Gold & Jewellery Group publishes a retail rate during the day that jewellers across the country display. An Abu Dhabi shop that quoted a higher gram rate would simply lose the customer to the shop next door, so the rate itself is not something you negotiate.
What does change from city to city is everything added on top: the making charge for the labour, the range of designs on the shelf and how far a shopkeeper will move when you bargain. Abu Dhabi has fewer small independents packed into one lane than Dubai, so the capital's prices tend to be slightly more uniform and a little less open to haggling. If you want the long version of how the national rate is set, read who sets the Dubai gold rate; the short version is that you can trust the number on this page anywhere in the emirate, from the Corniche to Mussafah and out to Al Ain. The gold rate in Dubai today page carries the same board with a calculator and chart if you want everything on one screen.
Today's gold rate in Abu Dhabi by karat
The table below is live. It shows the price per gram for every karat sold in the capital, in dirhams and in dollars, and you can switch the unit to 10 grams, a tola or an ounce.
Gold rate in Dubai today
…
| Purity | AED / gram | USD / gram | AED / 10 g | AED / tola |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 24K (999) | … | … | … | … |
| 22K (916) | … | … | … | … |
| 21K (875) | … | … | … | … |
| 18K (750) | … | … | … | … |
The same daily rate applies in all seven emirates. International spot price converted to dirhams at the official peg (1 USD = 3.6725 AED). Shops quote the Dubai Gold & Jewellery Group rate plus making charges and 5% VAT on the labour.
Two lines on that table matter more than the others in Abu Dhabi. The first is 22K, the purity that the large Indian expat community buys for bridal sets, bangles and the gold given at Onam, Diwali and weddings; it is 91.6% pure, stamped 916, and is the karat most people mean when they search for "today gold rate in Abu Dhabi 22k". The second is 21K, stamped 875, which Emirati, Egyptian, Jordanian, Syrian and Sudanese families prefer for its warmer colour and the slightly harder alloy that suits heavy sets and daily wear.
18K is what you will see in the diamond and designer counters of the malls, and 24K is for bars and coins rather than jewellery. If the stamp on a piece is unclear, our guide to gold karats explains what each number means for colour, durability and resale value. Prices here are indicative: the shop's own board, updated through the day, is the one that goes on your invoice.
Gold shops in Abu Dhabi: Madinat Zayed Gold Centre
The closest thing Abu Dhabi has to a gold souk is the Gold Centre attached to Madinat Zayed Shopping Centre in the city centre. Under one roof you will find dozens of jewellers side by side, from family-run counters specialising in 21K Arabic and Gulf designs to branches of the big South Asian chains. Because the shops are next to each other, it is the one place in the capital where comparing making charges on an identical bangle takes minutes rather than a morning of driving.
A few practical notes for a first visit:
- Go in the evening or at the weekend if you want the full range of staff and stock; mornings are quieter and better for a calm conversation about a custom order.
- Ask for the rate card first. Every shop here works from the same day rate, so the only variable to compare is labour, quoted per gram or as a percentage.
- Sellers are welcome too: several counters buy old gold at the day's rate minus a margin, which makes it a sensible place to get a second quote.
The centre is air-conditioned, has parking, and is used to walk-in customers who want to look without buying, so there is no pressure to decide on the spot. For a comparison of how it stacks up against Deira, see our page on the Dubai Gold Souk.
Hamdan Street, Al Wahda Mall and Dalma Mall
Outside Madinat Zayed, Abu Dhabi's gold trade is spread across three kinds of location. Hamdan Street and the surrounding downtown blocks have long had stand-alone jewellers at street level, many of them serving Arab families who want 21K sets and who have bought from the same shop for a generation. Prices are rarely posted in the window; you ask, and the answer is the day rate plus a labour figure the shop will defend but may trim for a regular customer.
Al Wahda Mall, near the central bus station, has the chain showrooms that Indian and Pakistani residents know from home, including Malabar Gold & Diamonds and other national brands listed in our jewellers guide. The chains publish their rate openly, accept cards without a surcharge and run seasonal promotions on making charges that are worth asking about. Dalma Mall, out towards Mussafah, serves the large workforce on that side of the island with similar chain branches and is often the easiest option for families who live off the island.
Yas Mall, Marina Mall and The Galleria add 18K designer and diamond boutiques at the top of the market. For a street-by-street list by emirate, our gold shop near me page covers all of these areas.
Gold ring price in Abu Dhabi: how an invoice is built
A ring is a good example because the metal is light and the labour is a large share of the price. Suppose you pick a plain 22K band weighing 4 grams. The shop multiplies the weight by today's 22K rate to get the metal value, adds its making charge, then adds 5% VAT on the total. For a simple band the labour might be a modest per-gram amount; for a stone-set or engraved ring it can be a third of the bill or more.
| Line on the invoice | How it is calculated | Can you negotiate it? |
|---|---|---|
| Metal value | Grams × today's karat rate | No, it is the national rate |
| Making charge | Per gram, or % of metal value | Yes, this is where to bargain |
| Stones or enamel | Priced separately | Sometimes |
| VAT | 5% of the whole invoice | No, but tourists can reclaim it |
Use the gold calculator to turn today's rate into a metal value for any weight before you leave home, then you will know instantly how much of a quote is labour. Our gold ring price guide goes deeper into men's and women's designs, and the making charges guide explains what a fair labour rate looks like for chains, bangles and sets.
Selling gold in Abu Dhabi at today's rate
When you sell, the same page works in reverse. A buyer in Madinat Zayed will weigh the piece, check the hallmark and often test it with an acid kit or an XRF machine, then offer the day's rate for that karat minus a deduction. You will not get back the making charge you paid when you bought it; that cost belongs to the jeweller's workshop, not to the metal. What you can control is the deduction, which is smaller when the piece is hallmarked, comes with its original invoice, and when you have already checked the live rate so the buyer knows you are informed.
Get at least two quotes before accepting, ideally one from a counter inside the Gold Centre and one from a chain showroom, because the margins they keep can differ noticeably. Coins and bars of 999 purity sell closer to the rate than jewellery. The full process, including what to do if a buyer disputes the purity, is in our guide to selling gold, and if you only need cash for a few months, a gold loan from a UAE lender lets you keep the jewellery.
VAT on gold in Abu Dhabi and the tourist refund
Abu Dhabi applies the federal rules: jewellery carries 5% VAT on the full invoice, including the making charge, while investment gold of 99% purity or more, such as bars and most bullion coins, is zero-rated. Residents buying a bar for savings therefore pay no VAT on the metal, which is one reason many families in the capital keep part of their savings in small gold bars bought at a chain showroom.
Visitors can reclaim the VAT on jewellery through the Planet tax-refund scheme at Abu Dhabi International Airport, provided the shop registered the purchase for refund at the till, the invoice was at least AED 250, and the goods leave the country within 90 days. Ask the shop to tag the receipt before you pay; it cannot be done afterwards. Relatives visiting from India, Pakistan or Egypt who plan to carry gold home should also read the customs limits for carrying gold to India page, since the refund at this end does not change the duty at the other. Details of the scheme are in our VAT on gold guide.
When Abu Dhabi residents buy, and why timing matters
The gram rate is set by the world market and no one in the capital can predict it, but the shopping calendar is predictable. Demand peaks in the week before Eid Al Fitr and Eid Al Adha, in the run-up to Diwali and Onam, and through the winter wedding season from November to February. During those weeks, popular designs sell out and making charges are firmer. The quieter months of midsummer, when many families travel, are when chains advertise their biggest labour discounts.
Salary timing also matters in a city where most wages land on the same few days of the month: showrooms are busiest right after payday and more willing to spend time with you a week later. If you are buying for an occasion, visit early, note the weight and labour of the piece you want, and watch the UAE gold price history for a few days so a sudden move does not catch you out. For a step-by-step checklist from hallmark to receipt, see how to buy gold in Dubai, which applies just as well in the capital.
Frequently asked questions
What is the gold rate in Abu Dhabi today for 22 carat?
The live table above shows today's 22 carat rate per gram in dirhams and dollars, converted from the international spot price. It is the same rate used in Dubai and every other emirate. Shops add their making charge and 5% VAT on top, so the final price of a 22K piece is always a little above the gram rate multiplied by its weight.
Where is the gold souk in Abu Dhabi?
Abu Dhabi does not have a traditional open-lane souk like Deira. The main cluster of jewellers is the Gold Centre at Madinat Zayed Shopping Centre in the city centre, with further shops on Hamdan Street and chain showrooms in Al Wahda Mall, Dalma Mall and the larger island malls.
Is gold cheaper in Abu Dhabi or Dubai?
The metal rate is identical. Dubai's souk has more shops competing in one place, which can mean slightly lower making charges and more room to bargain on heavy pieces. For a single ring or chain the difference is usually small and not worth the drive, but for a full bridal set it can be worth comparing a Deira quote with a Madinat Zayed one.
Does Malabar Gold in Abu Dhabi follow the same rate?
Yes. Malabar Gold & Diamonds, Joyalukkas and the other chains with Abu Dhabi showrooms display the national daily rate and apply it to every karat. What differs between chains is the making charge, the design catalogue and seasonal offers such as reduced labour on selected collections, which is what you should compare.
Can I sell gold in Abu Dhabi without the original bill?
You can. Buyers test the purity themselves and pay according to the hallmark and the test result, but a piece with its invoice and a clear 916 or 875 stamp usually gets a smaller deduction from the day's rate. Bring your Emirates ID, as buyers record the seller's details for every purchase.
